JC Toys, the successful American toy brand, has expanded its presence in Europe through a Shopify-powered website. JC Toys is a well-established toy manufacturer and distributor based in the United States, known for its high-quality and innovative toy products for toddlers and kids. Recognizing the growth potential in the European market, the company has now brought its offerings to European customers through this new website.
In alliance with Christian Gabriel Agency, I develop the new store in Shopify using best practices. The tech stack was Liquid, HTML, CSS3, Vanilla JavaScript and AlpineJS to showcase an amazing site. Besides that, I added some apps, like geolocation to differentiate the site depending on the IP on which is accessed.

Challenge
The challenge with the website was that it was not the typical pixel-perfect design that front-end developers are usually accustomed to. The brand wanted to demonstrate that it was designed and conceived for children, so the harmonious imperfection had to be present with brushstrokes and geometric shapes that seemed to be drawn by a child.
Solution and Key points
In collaboration with the JC Toys team and their designers, and together with the Christian Gabriel team, the vision they had for the site was brought to life with pastel colors that evoke childhood, the imperfect brushstrokes of children, and of course, while also taking care of the performance details and metrics, as well as the user experience on all mobile devices. The key points were to create a dynamic, fun, with unique and joyful content.
Results
The results are palpable, as the European website clearly differentiates itself from the American site by focusing more on the user experience. It provides detailed information about each product offering through the metafields that Shopify provides for each product variant. The European store is a prime example that a website for children should have a design that reflects the imperfect, hand-drawn aesthetic of children's artwork. The use of pastel colors, imperfect brushstrokes, and dynamic content creates a unique and engaging interface that resonates with the target audience of children and families.
